“The biggest draw to the restaurant was that no matter who you are or where you come from, there has and always will be a sense of warmth and comfort within the building’s walls.”
The structure of The Cow and Sow has existed for over 100 years and has been home to a variety of businesses, including June and Fred’s Diner. The Cow and Sow Eatery was created by Dickon Robinson in 1996. Dickon’s philosophy for the restaurant was simple: Every person who walks through the swinging saloon doors is either already a friend, or will be. Dickon built the restaurant to be one of the most long-lasting, successful businesses in Fenelon Falls, and the go-to place for both locals and cottagers alike.
In May of 2019, Lorraine and Emily purchased the Cow and Sow from Dickon. The Cow and Sow was the Forbes family’s favourite restaurant. As cottagers, The Forbes family visited the restaurant at least once per week, and since being permanent residents of Fenelon Falls, the visit increased to multiple. The biggest draw to the restaurant was that no matter who you are or where you come from, there has and always will be a sense of warmth and comfort within the building’s walls.
All of the thought and work that went into the creation of our menu, our building, and everything in between, reflect the history of Fenelon Falls, the heritage of the building, and the character of the pre-existing Cow and Sow Eatery. Most of all, each and every piece of the Cow and Sow Local Eatery and Saloon is created to preserve and continue an atmosphere in which everyone feels they are in a place of comfort — A place where your server knows you by your first and last name. A place where you can be yourself. A place where you can enjoy a meal with your family, or dance the night away up in The Loft/ A place where no matter who you are or where you come from, you are welcomed with open arms.
